stoba celebrates 60 years of innovation
There are many good reasons to be optimistic about the future. One is that for 60 years stoba has been developing innovations for better products and processes. For 60 years we have been developing the future!
This is an occasion for us to look back proudly on what we have achieved and to view the successes of the past six decades as an impetus to continue driving technological progress forward with energy and determination.
To become the company we are today, we cleared several hurdles, and continually faced new challenges with courage. Christoph Bode, CEO of the stoba Group summarizes: ”This is how we went from the ‘simple turning shop’ to a contract manufacturer to a specialist for high-precision components and modules in large-scale production. And how we went from a local automotive supplier to a global technological partner for topics of the future.”
Ongoing development and new markets
Important milestones in this process include the entry into the GDI Market in 2012, into laser technology in 2014 and the opening of the consumer market in 2018. Since the same year, stoba has been mixing up the e-mobility market. Gerhard Firlbeck, COO of the stoba Group, is proud of this progress: “Over the years, we have continually broadened our base and are continuing to develop to offer our customers the best.”
From Backnang to the world - for our products and our employees. Backnang is the backbone of stoba Precision Technology, where processes are developed and passed on. Brno is our knowledgeable and efficient GDI specialist. Our youngster, the future Charleston site will be our flagship for the North American market. The plant in Small Dole is our Center of Excellence for Heavy Duty Injector Bodies. In Yantai we see extremely positive and promising development for the entire company. stoba Customized Machinery in Memmingen is the absolute technology leader. And our youngest business unit stoba e-Systems is our logical step to e-mobility. Together with all the business units and the sites, we are one stoba. We are proud of the past 60 years. Together we are looking forward to many more decades of tireless progress and healthy alert curiosity. Always with one big goal of developing the future.

There are currently 46 apprentices training in Memmingen and Backnang. Why did you decide to join stoba? How is the apprenticeship going in this exceptional situation? Climate change is impossible to ignore at this point and requires action. While other companies are only slowly addressing the issue of CO2 neutrality, stoba Weinstadt began reducing CO2 emissions ten years ago. The start was made with a photovoltaic system with an output of 99.9 kWp, which was installed on the roofs of the company premises.
It all started here in November 1961 with the founding of stoba Präzisionstechnik: In the Swabian town of Backnang, the first and oldest of all stoba locations.
Video calls instead of meetings in the office, a chat message instead of calling over to the office next door, remote maintenance instead of long drives, and on-site service. Just a few years ago, hardly anyone could have imagined that we would work like this. However, that is the way it is today. Given these circumstances, how are we designing cooperation at stoba?
